The Human Body & The Physical Heart
Halaqa Notes: The Spiritual Heart
Metaphor: The Heart as a moral compassThe Earth is a magnet that can interact with other magnets in this way, so the north end of a compass magnet is drawn to align with the Earth's magnetic field. Because the Earth's magnetic North Pole attracts the "north" ends of other magnets, it is technically the "South Pole" of our planet's magnetic field.
Reflection
Often, we see our love for Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) as separate from our amaal, or actions. Notwithstanding our love for Allah (سبحانه و تعالى), we are bound by his rules (shariah) and His rules still apply to us. A tragedy in our life is that we are not able to follow the shariah, that we lapse into sin, we disobey Allah (سبحانه و تعالى), or we don't follow the sunnah of Rasulullah (S). When we fall into sin and disobedience, it is that love for Allah and his Rasulullah in our hearts that can redeem us, save us, and eventually bring us to the mercy of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى). Sadly, there are too many distractions, temptations, and fitnas that are drawing our heart toward the love for everything besides Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) --- this disconnects us from Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) for Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) did not give us two hearts in our body so that we can love both duniya and akhirah. In fact, Tawhid is not just to believe that Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) is One but also to give Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) sole domain and dominion in our hearts. Therefore, a greater tragedy is that the love that could have guided us to tawbah and redeemed us has gone away. Not only are we leading empty lives, but we are walking around with empty hearts.
